| What is a Properly Closed/Opened Utility Account? | ||
| An account is properly closed when meter reading information is received, account information is verified and a forwarding address is provided for the closing bill within 14 days of turning in the keys which prohibits occupancy. An account is properly opened when meter reading information is received and full and accurate account information is provided within 14 days of receiving the keys which allows the customer to gain access to a residence. |
||
| Why is meter read information necessary? | ||
| As a customer courtesy, utilities are left on between customers. Therfore it is necessary that we obtain meter information to determine when to change the billing responsibility from one customer to the next. If the date an account is closed/open differs from the date the meter reading is taken the utility may adjust the meter reading by using a daily average. | ||

| What are the Meter Reading Options? | ||
| Customers who are going to close/open a water/sewer garbage account can either read the meter themselves or have the utility read it for a $74.00 fee. It is always best to read the meter the day you move. If a meter reading is taken on a different day, the utility may prorate the reading based on the average daily consumption. Customers who are going to close/open an electric account can read the meter themselves, have the utility read it for a $33.00 fee, or accept an estimated meter reading based on previous consumption history at the property.
