Question Answer
I am a non-profit agency.  Can I get my maps at no charge? No, pursuant by city ordinance, we charge for all GIS products and services in order to recover our cost of labor to provide these services.
How do I download data? Presently, GIS data is not available for download via the Internet. GIS data is provided though the GIS Products & Services Unit of SPU.  A data provision service is established for the intake of GIS data requests.  However, Standard Maps are available for download online at:http://www.cityofseattle.net/GIS/docs/mapsonline.htm
What does GIS mean? GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a system of software and hardware used to create, collect, analyze, store, manipulate, and illustrate spatial data.
What if I need a hard-copy map? Express Maps are available at the GIS Map Counter located on the 20th floor of Seattle Municipal Tower (formerly Key Tower) (700 5th Ave) or by calling (206)684-0965. Express Maps are pre-designed 11x17 maps displaying area of interest and themes of interest.

More info about Express Maps at: http://www.cityofseattle.net/GIS/docs/expmap.htm Custom Mapping is required for meeting specialized mapping and analysis requests that cannot be met with either Standard Maps or the Express Mapping Service.
Who are the City of Seattle department contacts for mapping? Please contact: Albert Gonzales
albert.gonzales@seattle.gov
I am a student at the University of Washington working on a GIS project.  Can you provide the data I need? GIS data is available at the Map Library located in Suzzallo Hall to all registered University of Washington students.  The data can only be used for educational purposes and cannot be redistributed, sold, or used for commercial purposes.
